Song In G Major

Today's lesson is a song in G major. In the last lesson we broke away from the white keys and learned a scale which added a black key to our arsenal. Le'ts review that scale now, it was G major, and it looked like this: G, A, B, C, D, E, F#, and G.

Let's build the root, fourth, and fifth chords for that scale. The root is the G chord, made up of the notes G, B, and D. The fourth is the C chord, made up of the notes C, E, and G. Finally the fifth is the D chord, made up of the notes D, F#, and A. Now let's put those chords into a progression. We'll use G, C in the second inversion, G, D in the first inversion, G, C in the second inversion, D in the first inversion, and back to the G.

With the left hand playing just the root note play those chords as broken chords in your right hand. You can add other chords to the mix. Maybe an E minor or an A minor. If it ever gets away from you just start over at the root and get the progression going again.
