Adding Your Left Hand

Over the previous four lessons you've learned the basics of piano with only the right hand. Now we are going to use the left hand. Anything you have learned can be used in both hands and you should be able to play everything with both hands equally. But for now, let's just start with one note in the left hand. Let's take a simple chord progression of C, C, F, C, F, C, F, and C.

With the right hand play the chords, and with the left hand just hit the root note of the chords. Play it through with both hands a couple of times to get used to using both hands together. When you get more comfortable playing with both hands, you can add the octave to the left hand. You can also add the fifth interval to the left hand instead of the octave.

The chords may sound slightly familiar. Listen to me play them at the end of the video and see if you don't recognize the tune.
